Kim Clijsters and Caroline Wozniacki favored - 2011 Australian Open

Kim Clijsters, the two time defending US Open champion, is the top pick to win the women's singles event at the 2011 Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of the calendar year. Clijsters, currently ranked 3rd in the world, has never won the Australian Open however that is a statement that can be said about several of the favorites.

Caroline Wozniacki, the second favorite, has never won the event nor has Vera Zvonareva, the 4th favorite
Maria Sharapova, the 5th favorite, won the event in 2008 although she was a first round upset victim last season as Maria Kirilenko hit form and made a run, through Sharapova, to the Melbourne quarterfinals.

With Serena Williams out of the draw, the best chance for a repeat champion at the 2011 Aussie is Justine Henin as the former champion made the finals last season. Her fitness/health is questionable at this point in her career and that makes her status as third favorite questionable as well.

Aussie hopeful Samantha Stosur, the 6th favorite, has enough promise to make the quarters or the semis however the fact remains that she has not had much success in her home country's Slam, having never made the quarters as a veteran of 8 Australian Opens now.

The global tennis season starts at Abu Dhabi

The global tennis season starts here with true legends of the game competing for top honours and USD $250,000 prize money that includes current World #1 and defending champion Rafael Nadal along with 16-time grand slam winner and World #2 Roger Federer, as well as last year’s finalist Robin Soderling, the excitable Jo-Wilfried Tsonga from France, fast charging Tomas Berdych from the Czech Republic and rounded out with Cyprus’ Marcos Baghdatis..
Six of the world’s top men’s players will compete in a single elimination series of matches with Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer being granted the top two seeds and therefore being given a bye from Thursday’s first day matches (30th December 2010). Semi-Final matches will take place on day 2 with the final and consolation (3rd & 4th place) matches taking place on Saturday 1st January 2011.

Sharapova, Federer, and the Williams sisters named on Forbes Best Dressed List

Named on the Forbes Magazine “2010 Best Dressed Athlete” list, stars from football, basketball, tennis, and other arena’s are named for their innovations in design both in their field and off. In tennis, on the list Maria Sharapova is no newcomer to the world of fashion; the recent Instyle Russia covergirl showed fans that she could step out of the traditional tennis apparel box with her tuxedo jacket worn at Wimbledon. Moving into accessories, Sharapova’s collaboration on a shoes and handbags for Cole Haan has been well received with fashion critiques, awarding the 6’2” Russian the 2010 ACE Awards in New York City for her collaboration.

On the list as well was Roger Federer, the Swiss tennis player always gives the classic appeal of players from the past. His style of clean and crisp polo’s, rarely wavers when out on the court, a style that would seem monatonous on some but works for the quiet player. Off court shows no difference, the 29-year-old player is typically photographed with his children in preppy sweaters and clean khaki’s. In addition to this, his friendship with Vogue Editor-In-Chief Anna Wintour certainly doesn’t hurt his runway cred.

Featured together, Venus and Serena Williams have been causing a stir on the court since they first stepped on the scene, beaded braids shaking in the wind. The sisters daring outfits, think Venus’ 2010 French Open Dress, have successfully managed to raise eyebrows with fans over the years. But these burst of individuality didn’t go unnoticed by the fashion world, with Serena being spotted next to Anna Wintour during the 2010 Fashion Week, and even being asked, personally, to model by Editor-At-Large Andre De leon Tally.

Also making the list were New England Patriots Quaterback Tom Brady, LA Galaxy Midfielder David Beckham, New York Rangers Left Wing Sean Avery and Goalie Henrrik Lundqvist, amongst others.

Troicki, who had replaced Janko Tipsarevic in the final singles match, dropped to the court in jubilation after his victory and his teammates fell into each other's arms to celebrate.
"This is unbelievable. I don't know how to react, what to do. This is the best moment of my life," Troicki said as his teammates kept their promise to have their heads shaved on court.

What a finish to the 2010 ATP Federer V Nadal

This was an epic finish to the year end tennis event. A dream match up between the world number 1
and the world number 2. and they delivered we just wish that Nadal did`t have to spend 3 hours on
the court fighting Murray it really showed in the 3rd set . Not to take away from Federer win witch
undeniably  prove that the greatest tennis player ever is not done yet.
"It's fantastic, I'm really thrilled the way I played all week," said Federer. "To win a fifth time is obviously amazing, for the third time in a different place. Like I said before, it would be great to win in Houston, Shanghai and also now here in London.
"I'm just really happy the way I was able to finish the season in style, playing some of my best tennis, really saving the best for last. Obviously, beating Rafa in the final makes it extra special because of the year he had."
The 29-year-old Swiss saw off world number one Nadal 6-3 3-6 6-1 at the O2 Arena to win the ATP World Tour Finals, reclaiming the title he last won in Shanghai three years ago.

Roger Federer defeated Novak Djokovic 6-1, 6-4

Federer came out of the gate determine to make this quick and painful
to Djokovic and send a clear massage to the rest of the top ten that he is
not ready to retire yet. In a very impressive performance 6-1 6-4 win over
Djokovic firing that forehand like he means it. To Djokovic credit he did`t make easy
on Roger but today Federer was too good. However if Nadal is on the other side of
the net Federer have to find that extra gear hope he still remember how much action
is on Nadal balls the two have`t played in a while but I sure they been waiting
for this they both love a challenge and feed on it luck for us tennis fans.

London .  It seems like tennis fans everywhere are in for a treat on Sunday .
thank`s to Federer and Nadal performance in the last 2 matches we may
get treated to a final between the world number 1 & 2 .

secure first place in Group B.
Federer improved his career record against Soderling to 15-1, with his only
loss to the Swede coming in this year’s French Open quarterfinals.
Next up is Nadal v. Berdych it`s hard to see any surprise if Nadal performance
stays the same it will be an uphill task for Berdych to do anything against Rafa.

Nadal beat Dojokvic Berdych beat Roddick

LONDON - Rafael Nadal defeated Novak Djokovic 7-5, 6-2 at the ATP World Tour Finals on Wednesday, his Serbian opponent bothered by a problem with his contact lenses that forced him to leave the court.
There were visual issues as well in the earlier Group A match. Andy Roddick was angered by flashing lights behind the baseline during his racket-busting 7-5, 6-3 loss to Tomas Berdych that left him with an 0-2 record at this season-ending tournament.
Djokovic, who lost to the top-ranked Nadal in this year's U.S. Open final, called for a timeout out early in the eighth game. After Nadal held at love to make it 4-4, Djokovic left the court to tend to the problem, but it seemed to persist when he returned.

Federer d. Murray 6-4 6-2 at london

London                      In a drama free match Federer had thing under control from the first point
to match point . We thought Murray will give Roger a work out this time but it was anything but! .
Earlier this week, Federer said the following about his and Murray’s 2010 seasons: “We both played well at the Australian, then we played well in Toronto. We both played well in Shanghai.  Here it seems like we’re both playing well again. So it’s somewhat similar, I guess. Only difference is I have the Slam and the 250, 500 and 1000.”

Roddick losses to Nadal at ATP final 6-3 6-7 4-6

Roddick seemed to have thing under control in the first set and it looked like this time will
give Nadal a run. Roddick take the first set 6-3 . we go to the second set and Nadal find
his grove despite Roddick hitting the ball very well Nadal ends up taking it in a tie breaker
7-6. third set Roddick serve really well especially the wide serve on the deuce side but Nadal
finds the break in the fifth game and holds after and never looks back. that`s what happens
when you give Rafa a half chance. At the end Roddick losses a hart breaker because he
performed really good but to Rafa credit he always had an answer.
Now we wait for the much anticipated meeting between Federer and Murray this should
a great match and Federer have a lot hanging on this one it would be a spacial win if he
comes out on top.

Federer d Ferrer at the ATP final in London

Roger Federer win in straight sets 6-1 6-4 and staying ahead of Murray who defeated Soderling 6-2 6-4
Ferrer is now 0 of 10 against Federer . the first set was clear sailling for Federer in the second set Ferrer
tried to make thing more competitive forcing Federer to save five break points.
Next stop on the Fed-Ex is Andy Murray  (Tuesday) who is plying the best tennis of his carrier this year
it will not be an easy win if roger mange to pull that one . my prediction Murray will take it in three sets.
At any rate it should be very entertaining tennis to watch.

Murray beats Soderling on opening day of ATP Finals

Andy Murray won his first match at the ATP World Tour Finals, beating Robin Soderling 6-2, 6-4 Sunday on the opening day of the season-ending event.
The fifth-ranked Murray, who dropped below No. 4 Soderling in last week's rankings, kept the ball away from the Swede's strong forehand on the indoor court at the O2 Arena.
"I played very smart tennis today," Murray said. "And even when obviously it was getting tough in the second set, a lot of long rallies, I was on the defensive quite a lot, stuck to my tactics well and managed to come through."

Andy Murray slips to fifth in world rankings

Andy Murray has slipped one place to fifth in the latest world rankings, giving him a potentially tougher draw at the ATP World Tour Finals in London.
The Briton, 23, has been overtaken by Robin Soderling after the Swede won his first Masters title in Paris on Sunday.
Both men are in the eight-man field for the end-of-season Tour Finals, which begin at London's O2 Arena on Sunday.
Murray will play either Roger Federer or Rafael Nadal in the group stage, but could now also face Novak Djokovic.
The Scot has been as high as number two in the world this year and before Monday had spent only three weeks outside the top four since September 2008, but defeat by Gael Monfils in the quarter-finals in Paris opened the door for Soderling to grab fourth spot.

Roger Federer wins, Andy Roddick loses

Top-seeded Roger Federer reached the semifinals of the Paris Masters for the first time by defeating Jurgen Melzer of Austria 6-1, 7-6 (4) on Friday.
"I wouldn't say it's a relief, because a relief is something else, but I'm pleased to be in the semis," Federer said. "I knew it was going to be difficult because in the beginning I only had one hour of practice here. But now I feel good and I'm not too tired."
Federer, who fired 18 aces and had 33 winners overall, will next play last year's runner-up and local favorite Gael Monfils, who beat third-seeded Andy Murray 6-2, 2-6, 6-3.
Murray ran out of gas and struggled on his first serve in the decider, allowing Monfils to make the decisive break in the fifth game after the 23-year-old Scot made two consecutive unforced errors.
Andy Roddick lost the serving contest against Robin Soderling, who had 18 aces in the 7-5, 6-4 win.

A closely-fought first set was decided by a forehand winner from Stosur. Stosur turned up the heat in the second, racing to a 5-2 lead. But Wozniacki scratched a game back and nerves seemed to get the best of Stosur as she twice double faulted before closing out final game when Wozniacki returned her serve long.

Biomechanics of Tennis from the science point of view

Roger Federer's 64th title ties Sampras

This win means a lot more than Federer would admits to any TV interview.
In so many ways wining a title or getting to the final of any ATP event is
consider an achievement for Federer when you factor in the age and Nadal
and the other young and healthy player looking to get noticed and move up
in the ranking. So Roger should be so happy and proud of this title as much
as a gran slam .
. "You never know when it's your last one. That's why you want to savor
every tournament victory." said Federer.

Shanghai: Melzer upset Nadal

Melzer took the ball early and on the rise, hitting it as flat as can be. The bullet shots kept Nadal on the run and prevented him from establishing any sort of rhythm. Melzer has hit like this throughout his career, but his shots seemed to inevitably drift wayward or into the net. That was the exception, rather than the rule, on Thursday. He easily took the first set 6-1. Nadal came back and won the scond set 6-3. Thired set
Melzer continued to apply pressure with his forehand, pushing Nadal around the court and forcing errors. When Nadal was finally broken in the sixth game, it was because of four errant shots. They were Nadal's misfires, but they were a result of Melzer's firepower. Two impressive love holds later, and Melzer had his showcase win of the season.
Time for the world number one to take Sampras advise and not play so much.

The world No1 Rafael Nadal overpowered Frenchman Gael Monfils 6-1, 7-5 to win the Japan Open in Tokyo. This was a much easier task than the semi against  Viktor Troicki  who had two match point.
It was the Spaniard's seventh title of the year after a flawless match in which Monfils failed to force a single break point.Monfils, who is ranked 15th in the world and defeated second-seeded Andy Roddick in a hard-fought match en route to the finals, said he started off slowly because he warmed up with the arena roof closed and could not get used to the sunlight as it opened just before the competition began.

Major-Less Wozniacki Clinches No.1

Caroline Wozniacki, who’ll replace Serena Williams as the top WTAer when the rankings are released on Monday; she’s the first Dane (man or woman) to hold the number one ranking.Although Wozniacki still doesn’t have a Grand Slam title to her name, we think that there isn’t a question about whether this top ranking is deserved. Five titles in 2010, a consistent performance throughout the year, and a game that’s still growing. It should only be a matter of time before she bags one.

Isner goes deep and faces Novak Djokovic @ Beijing, China

Isner upset Nikolay Davydenko in the China Open 7-6, 6-4 proves once again that
A huge serve never goes out of style he may not be as fast as Davydenko or Kohlschreiber but when he find his grove he can hold serve and put the racket on most balls. Based on what Isner has done so far, Djokovic can’t afford to take the American lightly . It won`t be an easy task to beat the world number two but the American got much better lately especially his net game. we should expect a good match.

Rafael Nadal Richard Mille Watch stolen!!

Nadal won the us open 2010 the only grand slam title that eluded him.
For the third time in a row, he held the winner's trophy aloft with his Richard Mille on his wrist. An ultimate watch, an extravagance, entirely in keeping with the great champion who wears it.

Everything in this watch is a feat, a technological accomplishment… And nothing has been left to chance. Years have been spent in research, and the use of innovative materials such as LITAL for the moving parts and a carbon-based composite for the casing have resulted in a mechanical tourbillon watch weighing approximately 20 grams, strap included.
Rumors has it that this watch was stolen during the Roger Cup in Canada leading to the us open  .  Nadal did`t wear it in the following event ( Cincinnati ) but he showed up with one in New York .
If that`s true I`d like to see who would buy the $525,000 watch considering only 50 were made.

Del Potro second defeat @ Japan Open

The 29-year-old Spaniard took 16 points in a row at the start of the second set to secure a 6-3, 6-0 victory over the Argentine in just 71 minutes.
"It's difficult to come back to play against these kind of players. A lot of them are very good, especially Feliciano on this (fast) surface. But I'm glad to come back," said Del Potro, who had been sidelined since the Australian Open in January.
If he can`t mange to win few match this is not good for his mental game. people in his camp should give him a sound advice if you want to be at the top ten you really have to stay healthy and be smart about when to play and where.
Del Potro have a lot to give to the game and I`m sure he will recover soon.
