FEDERER BEATS DJOKOVIC TO REACH DUBAI FINAL 2014

No. 8 Roger Federer rallied to beat No. 2 and defending champion Novak Djokovic 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 on Friday to advance to the final of the Dubai Championships. Federer will play No. 6 Tomas Berdych in Saturday’s final as the Swiss seeks his first hard-court title since the Western & Southern Open in August 2012.

After a slow start, Federer came back to earn his first victory against Djokovic when dropping the first set. The first two sets were decided by small margins, with some scintillating play from both men; they took advantage of the quick conditions to play some big-hitting, aggressive tennis.

Federer earned a 0-30 lead on Djokovic’s serve in the sixth game of the second set before a brief rain delay. When play resumed, the match turned completely in Federer’s favor. He went on to break and won 10 of the last 13 games for the victory.

Andy Murray (SCOT) [3] v Jeremy Chardy (FRA) 6-4, 6-1, 6-2 quarter-final

Andy Murray is through to his 12th grand slam tournament semi-final, and in this form, he would be a live chance against either Jo-Wildred Tsonga or Roger Federer.
Murray tells Channel Seven that he played much better in this game than earlier in the tournament.
"That's why I do the work in the off-season, to be able to chase down as many balls as possible."
He hopes his upcoming opponent will tonight play for "four or five hours if possible".

David Ferrer rallies to win in 5 sets

The No. 4-seeded Ferrer survived once in the third set and twice in the fourth when No. 10 Nicolas Almagro was serving for the match, but held firm and finally advanced to his fourth semifinal in six Grand Slam events with a 4-6, 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (4), 6-2 win on Tuesday.
"It was (a) miracle I won this match, I think,'' Ferrer said. "I tried to fight every point, that's my game. I always to fight.''

 

Rafael Nadal will play in Chile Open

Chile Open organizers announced Thursday that Nadal will make his debut in the clay-court event, which starts Feb. 4 in Vina del Mar.
Nadal hasn't played tennis since June, mainly because of tendinitis in his left knee. He was scheduled to play in an Abu Dhabi exhibition event in late December, but a stomach virus forced him to withdraw and skip the Australian Open.
He then planned to return in late February. But on Tuesday, organizers of the Brazil Open in Sao Paulo said he enter the tournament, which begins on Feb. 11. He's also signed up for the Mexican Open in Acapulco on Feb. 25.
He won the Brazil and Mexican titles the only time he entered them in 2005.
